Elf Workshop
I am such a sucker for Michaels and their 40% off coupons. Every week I get one, and I think I need to go in and buy something and get a great deal. (If my husband reads this he is going to be rolling his eyes at me!) This week I think I made a very good purchase and am sooooo excited with how it turned out. I purchased an unfinished two story dollhouse that was apparently meant to be a CD holder. I used some paint I already had, some little wooden peg people, some scrapbook paper and modge podge and made a little Santa's workshop for the kids to play with.
I painted the little people red and green and tried to make it look like hair and an elf hat on their heads as best I could with just paint. I thought of gluing a little pom on the top, but thought my daughter would just rip it right off, so I decided against it and just put a little dot of paint on the back of the "hats". I painted the outside and some of the walls, but for the bottom level I cut scrapbook paper to fit and used Modge Podge to glue and then seal it in place. I like how it turned out.
While at Michaels I also bought some little gingerbread wood pieces so I painted them and gave them little ribbon scarves. Then I saw those adorable little penguins, so I had to get those. And I wanted some little miniature presents, so I found these that were in the miniature ornament section. Of course EVERYTHING was like 50% off, making all of those little things like a buck a package or something. The CD/Dollhouse thing was like $5.99, but I used the 40% off coupon on it. Then at Target I grabbed a big bag of cotton balls so I could make it into a little sensory tub activity.
Oh, I also grabbed a Santa, Mrs. Claus and reindeer. They are just flat ornaments I think, so I need to glue them to a little block so they will be able to stand on their own, but it was the best I could find at the time. All in all, I declare this project a success!
And it was a great learning experience for me before I tackle the large unfinished dollhouse I also purchased at Michaels (with a 50% off coupon of course!) which is supposed to be one of my daughter's Christmas presents. I better get started huh? :)
