Build a House!

This awesome idea comes from my friend Kim. She was nice enough to share her pictures of their fun project with me so I could share with all of you! Thanks Kim!

This weekend they went to Lowe's and got a couple of large appliance boxes. They did a little remodeling of the boxes, cutting swinging doors, adding a window, and a little serving ledge/counter in case they decided to play restaurant or something.

They covered the box with butcher paper for the kids to have a clean slate to paint on. She got the paint, paint brushes and sponge stamps out and let the kids decorate their houses.

Josie looks like she really likes the sponge stamps!

Jayden wrote his name and then decided he needed some hand prints on his house. They both really enjoyed painting their hands and adding their hand prints. :)

Their finished projects, moved down to their playroom once it was dry. Kim said the kids had a lot of fun playing with them after their naps this afternoon. They also added some little mailboxes for their houses in case they want to send each other some mail.

These smiles don't lie, this was a FUN project!

So if you have the space, this could be a really fun project for you. Kids LOVE to have little places like this that they can get in and hide or just have that little space to themselves.

What a great prop for dramatic play (restaurant, house, etc.). By adding the mailboxes, Jayden (who is 4 1/2 and working on writing his letters) might be more inclined to try to write a little note of some kind to put in the mailbox.

When the kids get bored with it, you can just recycle the whole thing. If they want to do it again one day, just go get yourself some more free boxes from your local home improvement or appliance store!

Do you have any other ideas for projects to do with large appliance boxes? Kim has two more at her house just waiting for what they will become!
